Save 1000% on your projects using CFD and FEA simulation


Do not be alarmed, dear reader. The title is impressive, but it is a real case, in which the expertise of ATS contributed to savings of millions of reais. Understand more about the case.

In 2018, Constellation (formerly known as Queiroz-Galvão) requested that ATS perform an erosion simulation in exploration and oil pipelines, a large engineering and simulation project with an investment of BRL 100,000.

Through extensive bibliographic research, calculations and simulations carried out by us, and approved by the Petrobras Research Center (CENPES), we put our hands in the work to meet the request, putting into practice two factors in the calculation of flow and company structures:

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which uses numerical analysis to solve the Navier-Stokes equation by Reynolds mean (RANS), helping to solve non-Newtonian fluid problems with particles, such as oil.
  • And Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which consists of applying the finite element method to structures.

The combination of the two tools was necessary because the CFD calculated the erosion rate, and the FEA calculated the mechanical strength with the walls diminished by erosion. It was a complex calculation that was revised by Constellation and Petrobras step-by-step.

With all this knowledge in hand, the project for Constellation was carried out with perfection, and a project worth R$100 thousand reais generated savings of tens of millions for the giant of the Oil & Gas sector. savings of more than 1000%, as stated at the beginning of the text.
