Engineering with simulation

In buildings, simulation shows what prescriptive codes cannot: how smoke spreads, how long escape routes stay visible, where air does not reach and where pollutants go. ATS applies to buildings and construction the same CFD engineering it uses in aerospace, with studies accepted by the São Paulo Fire Department.

  • Fire DepartmentCFD studies accepted and approved in São Paulo
  • 3,600 sof fire simulated to release an exhibition hall whose construction was halted
  • 150+processor cores in the ATS in-house cluster

Five fronts in civil construction

  1. 1

    Fire and smoke control

Fire and smoke spread, smoke extraction and visibility along escape routes, for design and approval.

  2. 2

    Stairwell and room pressurization

Pressure differential between floors and stairwells to keep smoke from spreading.

  3. 3

    Thermal comfort

Temperature and ventilation in buildings, warehouses and hangars, against heat exposure limits.

  4. 4

    Ventilation and air conditioning

Air distribution, temperature and humidity in process rooms and controlled environments.

  5. 5

    Pollutant dispersion

Air quality and emission dispersion with AERMOD, for environmental licensing.

“ATS4i carried out several CFD studies in fire engineering, with results accepted and approved by the technical staff of the São Paulo Fire Department.”
